Alpha and Omega

ree

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Revelation 1:8 NIV

To determine the credibility of a statement, we look for commitment to and consistency in the language.

In the above verse, commitment is demonstrated immediately via the pronoun "I." The subject is very much in the statement and takes ownership of what follows.

Consider the use of pronouns in everyday language. Pronouns are reliable and consistent. Where a pronoun is dropped or omitted, for example in a social media message, we consider whether in context the action alleged was undertaken. If there is no "I" we can rightly ask, who undertook the action? No "I" = "No commitment."

The verse reads, "I am (present) The Alpha (beginning) and the Omega (ending). This speaks to the order of priority.

For consistency, we look for a similar order. The above is followed by, "Who is (present) who was (beginning) and who is to come (ending)"

There are no contradictions. On it's form, this verse demonstrates commitment and consistency and is truthful.
