As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:17 NIV
The verse makes a comparison between two pieces of metal honing each other making each other sharper. The same can be applied to people who improve and grow stronger via experience, challenges, communication and feedback.
The word 'so' could be seen as an explainer, which denotes a reason for why something can be. We are to be mindful of that which either precedes or follows it. It can be sensitive, in both a negative and positive way.
This is seen in the metaphor comparing the two things indicating a hidden similarity.
The positive aspect is the creation of a keener mind and improvement of character.
'As iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another.'
