The Lord is in his Holy Temple

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.

Psalm 11:4 NIV

'Articles' can reveal much in language. Articles are the words 'a,' 'an' and 'the'.

Initially a specific 'thing' is introduced via 'a' something or 'an' other thing.

Once introduced, the 'something' becomes known and the correct article, 'the' is used. This demonstrates recognition and can denote respect.

In the above text, 'The' Lord is recognised. The words are repeated increasing the importance of 'The' Lord himself.

Location is sensitive and important. It flows as a natural progression. 'The Lord is in his holy temple.' God's presence is there. This is followed by 'The Lord is on his heavenly throne.'

God's presence is in the Holy Temple. His throne is in heaven.

From heaven, he 'observes' everyone on earth. To 'observe' is to notice as being significant. Having 'observed,' The Lord then 'examines' which can be to inspect something thoroughly in order to determine its nature or condition. This is a natural progression and demonstrates God's love for the world.

He observes everyone and uses his eyes to examine.

Sherlock Holmes when speaking to Dr Watson famously said, 'You see but you do not observe.'

As with active listening, we have to actively 'observe' in order to examine for the greater good.

All of this is encompassed in Psalm 11:4.
